As the figures above show there is no sound proportion between production and exports. For instance, if we put date consumption in Iran at 100-200 thousand tons, a large portion of exportable date is used unnecessarily in this country. The very wide gap between the volume of production and export calls for further attention from the responsible authorities. Also it is necessary to initiate new consumer markets, introduce Iranian products in foreign markets on one hand, and on the other hand, improve the agricultural, sanitary, processing and packaging state in the groves and consumer markets equally. Preventing unnecessary domestic date consumption and export promotion will reserve a deserving share of world date market for our nation.

1.Industrial harvest: It is a method of harvest in which the harvested date is poured into wooden boxes, and processing and final packaging.

2.Traditional harvest: It is a method of harvest in which the harvested date is poured into sacks or consumer cartons to be transported to consumer markets.

3.Bulk packaging: The date cartons, measuring 10 kilograms or more, are carried to foodstuffs manufacturing factories or shipped to foreign customers to be packaged and re-exported.Consumer package is, however, smaller and measures lees than three kilograms. It is used by the marginal consumer.

Australia's export strawberry season off to an early start

Australia's main export strawberry season is expected to kick off early this year thanks to West Australian growers adopting new varieties and planting methods this year. This season many of the growers in Western Australia have planted 'leaf-on' runners which are much faster to establish than their traditional 'leaf-off' plantings. This earlier establishment has meant that growers have started harvesting their strawberries almost six weeks earlier than in previous seasons. 

 

Leading strawberry exporter Ti Produce Marketing expects their first shipments to be arriving in South East Asia as early as the third week of July. "We are seeing some excellent berries coming through and pricing is very quickly approaching the critical point at which we can start to export," says Ti Produce's Export Manager, Jamie Michael. He goes on to explain, "Our new 'leaf-on' transplants combined with increased plant numbers and favorable weather conditions mean that we are not just expecting an early crop, but we are expecting much larger volumes of fruit for export this season." 

 

Australian strawberries are shipped throughout South East Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific region and at this time of the year Australian strawberries must face tough competition from US to gain a share of the export market. Mr Michael explained, "Fortunately for us the season is not just early but our quality is superb so we are able to offer our customers a new season product that will stand up alongside anything that is in the market." 

The Western Australian strawberry season starts now and runs through until the end of November. 

Avocados (Persea americana)

Avocados (Persea americana) are a fruit and not a vegetable. They are thought to have originated in Mexico and in

 Central and South America. Avocado trees were first planted in Florida in 1833 and then in California in 1856. According to NASS, California now accounts for the majority of U.S. avocado production, followed by Florida and Hawaii.

The value of U.S. avocado production increased from $479.1 million in 2010 to $492.1 million in 2011. The total volume amounted to 226,450 tons, an increase of more than 52,120 tons from 2010. According to NASS (2012), the California avocado crop jumped to 195,000 tons, while the Florida crop rose to 31,100 tons. The number of acres under production stabilized at 59,950, and the yield per acre dramatically increased to 3.8 tons.
